Mincher Koeman Family Law Chambers Welcomes Alin Mayer

Lynsey and Andrew are pleased to welcome Alin Mayer to Mincher Koeman Family Law Chambers.

Alin joined Mincher Koeman Family Law Chambers as an associate in October 2017 after practicing Criminal Defence since her call to the Alberta Bar in 2016.

In 2015, Alin received her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary where she was heavily involved with Student Legal Assistance (SLA). As a Trial Coordinator, and a member of the SLA Executive Team, she focused exclusively on complicated litigation files. Alin was awarded the Borden Ladner Gervais Trial Advocacy Position in 2014. In her final semester of law school, Alin was chosen as one of five Provincial Court Clerkship Students. She shadowed Judges from Family, Criminal, Youth Criminal, and Civil Provincial Court, and during the course of the Clerkship took particular interest in the area of Child Apprehension. 

Alin began her career articling with a Criminal Defence boutique continuing her practice as Defence Counsel until her decision to focus exclusively on the practice of Family Law. During her practice as a Defence Lawyer, Alin appeared daily in Provincial Court and the Court of Queen’s Bench to advocate for clients being criminally prosecuted. Alin’s background in criminal litigation makes her uniquely qualified to pursue the needs of her clients all the while being alive to the intricacies associated with domestic disputes, addiction and substance abuse.

Each client and family is entirely unique, and requires a strategy specifically tailored to their particular circumstances. Alin is acutely aware that her clients rely on her advice in the midst of incredibly stressful periods in their lives; out-of-court negotiation strategies can often reduce the anxiety inherent in family law disputes. Often times the most efficient strategy involves a thorough exploration of resolution. However where out-of-court resolution is not viable, Alin’s work as Defence Counsel has equipped her to manage the various complexities that arise in high-conflict matters. Her continued focus on litigation throughout her legal career has allowed Alin to cultivate skills that are not only advantageous in highly contested matters, but also essential to successful negotiations.
