KRISTIN M. MCDONALD, Calgary Family Law and Divorce Lawyer

Kristin McDonald is a Calgary family lawyer with a strong background in conflict resolution and an interest in high conflict separations. Drawing upon a decade of experience working in human resources, she addresses interpersonal conflicts between separating partners with a unique blend of compassion and resolve that enables her to support clients effectively through difficult family law matters.

Prioritizing Amicable Approaches in Family Law

Kristin prioritizes alternative dispute resolution, working with clients to achieve amicable resolutions through negotiation, mediation, or arbitration. However, when circumstances necessitate court intervention, she is an accomplished advocate, fiercely representing her clients’ interests. Kristin also has an interest in pension requirements affecting property division in the event of family breakdown. Pensions, often one of the most valuable yet overlooked assets in a marriage, can become a point of contention during legal disputes. Kristin can help you fully understand your options, so you can take proactive steps to mitigate conflict and avoid unnecessary legal expenses in the future—allowing you to focus on your upcoming retirement instead.

Cost-Effective, Client-Centred Solutions

Having a passion for problem solving, Kristin strives to provide fair, practical, and cost-effective solutions for all her clients. She is committed to working in client-centred partnership to meet her clients’ goals in the best interests of their family. Kristin can help you understand, determine, and walk down the best path to resolve your family law matters. Her areas of expertise include:

Committed to Community & Professional Growth

Kristin is a former committee co-chair for the Women’s Legal Forum, and she has regularly volunteered with the Women’s Centre legal advice clinic and Calgary Legal Guidance. Kristin is committed to continuous learning and often attends professional education courses, to ensure she stays up to date on current caselaw and trends that add to her skillset and expertise in family law.

Outside of her legal career, Kristin enjoys traveling, making terrible art, and snuggling up with her cats (yes, plural!), and a glass of wine.
